Type "advice" or choose "Explore financial questions" in Help. Click one of the six cards or type the corresponding question yourself. You receive key figures, a breakdown by client or project where relevant, explanations and links to the underlying screens. These insights are available from Starter and do not change your records.
1. Set aside for tax
You see VAT for the selected period and a separate income tax savings scenario. Without a specified period, Assist uses the current quarter. VAT follows the VAT report; the income tax savings target uses the positive recorded result from 1 January through the end of the displayed period, no later than today.
The initial 30% is an example percentage. Change the Reserve percentage field and click "Calculate scenario". Legal form, other income, deductions, tax credits and the Dutch healthcare contribution are not calculated. Paid assessments, VAT payments and existing reserves are not deducted. A loss gives a zero savings target; a VAT refund is shown separately.
2. What you really earn
Assist divides your recorded result by all recorded working hours in the selected period. Travel and non-billable hours count; breaks do not. Without a period, you see the current year. Each project shows the contribution from linked revenue and costs, divided by its recorded hours.
This amount is before income tax and differs from your agreed hourly rate. General costs and revenue without a project link are not allocated across projects. Work that has not been invoiced can lower the result per hour. Without recorded working hours, Assist cannot calculate an hourly amount.
3. Revenue to invoice
This overview covers all work still to be invoiced through today. It shows the value of billable hours without an invoice, potential fixed project fees and amounts already in draft invoices. Amounts exclude VAT; draft invoices are shown separately.
A fixed fee is counted once per project. Check progress, instalments and client agreements before invoicing. Non-billable hours, future hours and cancelled projects are excluded. Hours without a known amount or rate are excluded from the monetary total and flagged. This insight does not create or send an invoice.
4. Clients who pay late
Assist reviews invoices with a due date in the past twelve months. For each client, you see how many invoices were paid late, how many remain overdue and, where payment dates are known, the average number of days they were paid late.
One late invoice is a single signal. Two or more late-paid or still overdue invoices are marked "Repeated delays". Paid invoices without a payment date have unknown punctuality. Drafts and credit invoices are excluded. The overview helps you follow up; Assist does not send reminders as part of this insight.
5. Your result in perspective
You see revenue, expenses and result from posted records, excluding VAT. Assist compares the current quarter with the previous quarter by default. If you specify a month or year, it compares with the previous month or year. The difference is shown as an amount and, when the previous result was positive, also as a percentage.
A running period is incomplete. The headline difference then compares the result through today with the entire previous period. An additional comparison covers a similar number of elapsed days in the previous period. This helps you judge the difference; it is not a forecast of your final result.
6. Room for an expense
Enter five amounts: the expense including VAT, your current available cash, upcoming commitments, the amount still needed for taxes and the buffer you want to keep. Enter 0 when an item does not apply. Click "Calculate scenario" to see what remains after the expense.
The recorded bank balance and unpaid recorded expenses are shown as reference. The bank balance is not live and commitments are not filled in automatically. Include missing bills, loans or planned private withdrawals where applicable. A positive remainder means the expense fits within the amounts you entered. No payment or accounting entry is made.
Example: considering a purchase
Suppose you have €8,000 available, €2,500 in upcoming commitments, €1,500 needed for tax and want to keep a €2,000 buffer. A purchase of €1,200 including VAT leaves €800. Change the purchase amount or buffer to compare options. Count each amount once, so you do not deduct an existing tax reserve twice.
How to read the results
- Always check the displayed period. Tax reserves and result comparisons default to the current quarter; result per hour defaults to the current year. Unbilled work covers the position through today, payment behaviour covers twelve months and spending room uses the amounts you enter now.
- The six financial insights consider your administration as a whole. They are not automatically limited to the client, project or filters on the open page. For tax reserves, result per hour and result comparisons, specify the month, quarter or year in your question.
- Recorded result is not available cash. An invoice may already count toward your result while the client has not paid yet. Keep hours, invoices, expenses and payment dates up to date; missing records can change the outcome. Use the notes and source links to trace the figures.
- Some overviews show at most ten clients or projects. Totals still include all qualifying records. A dash or a missing-data message means an amount cannot be calculated; do not automatically read it as zero.
